This is an interior illustration for the book Heidi. I love the affection between Heidi and Alm Uncle and wanted to portray that feeling of closeness.
This sequential illustration was designed with the Friend Magazine in mind. I would love to work with them one day.
One Eye for the Dead is my current graphic novel project.
Synopsis for One Eye for the Dead Tao Hua’s village had everything she could want: a good school, fun friends, and a faith that kept her safe. When she turned twelve, Tao Hua developed the sacred ability of The Chosen. She has one set of eyes to see into the mortal world, and another set of eyes that can see into the Underworld. At first, Tao was happy to feel so special. The whole village threw a celebration at the end of which she would be sent to the main temple for initiation into the Sisterhood of The Chosen. Tao is so excited, until she overhears the truth. In order to “protect the secrets of the dead” every Chosen has their tongue cut out at initiation. The Sisterhood is more of a prison than a monastery. She runs. She runs so far that no one in her new town has even heard of The Chosen. After a few years, Tao feels secure in her new life. She has a comfortable home, a lover, and even has made friends with some of the local shrine spirits. But when those spirits become corrupted and turn into giant realm-hopping monsters with the power to destroy the life she worked so hard to build- Tao Hua needs answers. Answers that can only be found in the temple she ran away from all those years ago. The Aviet my dream graphic novel and a project I have been working on for a few years now. I made this mock book cover to match the mood of the story.
I created this illustration as a class assignment and quickly fell in love with the characters. These little cyclops kids have been on my mind ever since. Expect to see more of them in the futire.
